Guidance Counselor, Mr. Speer, teaching Health and Career Readiness!

Hello PMCS families!

In addition to being the school counselor, I will be teaching Health and Careers class to all of our students. This class will cover many important topics that will teach our students skills and strategies to be more successful in school, as well as in the community. One component of the class will cover social emotional learning, and encourage skills like:
  • Empathy
  • Conflict-resolution
  • Executive functioning
  • Bullying-prevention
  • Child-protection
  • Other social and life skills.
Another aspect of the class will develop skills in career exploration. At this point in student’s academic careers, developing career aspirations begins with developing self-awareness, career exploration, and learning about personal strengths and interests. This part of the class will be interactive and utilize technology using Xello’s Career Cruising curriculum.

Part of our mission here, is to “ignite our student’s internal spark that leads to social, emotional, and academic success”. This class aims to develop skills and confidence in our students that they will use throughout their lives. As the school counselor, I still look forward to working with your students individually, collaborating with you as families, and am always open to having parent-conferences and phone calls.

I am excited for my first full-year here and am eager to work with you and your students!
